Supply Scarcity Premium
When the supply of a critical input cannot meet demand, its price detaches from cost fundamentals and rises to historic highs. This premium does not reflect increased manufacturing costs, but rather represents punitive market pricing for the inability to expand supply in the short term. Once suppliers begin adding capacity, the premium collapses rapidly.
