Opt-out vs Opt-in Default
When designing user consent frameworks, the default setting dramatically shapes actual user behavior. If data collection is pre-selected as default, most users maintain it due to inertia, cognitive friction, or risk aversion. If non-collection is the default, users must actively consent to be tracked. This seemingly technical choice fundamentally determines who controls the information asymmetry advantage.
