Moral Inconsistency & Action-Principle Divergence
When individuals or organizations publicly espouse certain moral principles but privately act in contradiction to them when their interests are at stake. This inconsistency stems from: (1) the separation between public posture and actual self-interest; (2) the tension between idealistic principles and competitive pressures; (3) shifting ethical standards after gaining or losing power and status.
