A state's strategic assertion of control over advanced technologies through export controls, capital screening, and talent restrictions—redrawing boundaries between domestic and foreign markets. Unlike traditional trade protectionism, technology nationalism represents a reassertion of state sovereignty within globalization. States treat certain technologies as national security assets, viewing their spread as an existential threat, and willingly fragment markets to maintain technological dominance.
