Asymmetric Vulnerability of Critical Infrastructure
Modern civilization depends heavily on critical infrastructure systems—energy, communications, and transportation—that are typically linear, centralized, and slow to repair. This creates a structural vulnerability: a small number of low-cost attackers can paralyze entire systems, while defenders must maintain security across extensive perimeters. The asymmetry lies in the attacker needing only one breakthrough point, while the defender must prevent breaches everywhere.
