Hidden Currency Dilution
A phenomenon where a company's operating profits remain stable, but reported profits in the parent currency fluctuate due to exchange rate movements. Currency fluctuations affect financial statements non-linearly through multiple channels—revenue recognition, cost settlement, realized foreign exchange gains/losses, fair value changes in derivatives, and other comprehensive income. This causes earnings to appear stable on the surface while being unstable in substance, potentially leading investors to overestimate the company's true earning power.
