Capability Curse / The Competence Trap

When a system gains new capabilities without proper design constraints, it can paradoxically weaken existing capabilities or trigger unintended behaviors. The returns from capability growth are not monotonic—there exists a critical threshold beyond which adding new tools disrupts overall system performance rather than enhancing it.
