Moat's Double-Edged Sword
When a business relies on its parent company's integrated advantages—such as cross-selling, internal subsidies, and economies of scale—these advantages function simultaneously as both a protective moat and a ceiling on growth. Upon independence, the business loses the moat's protection but must prove its genuine competitive strength under the profit pressures of operating as a standalone unit.
