Marginal Cost Structure and Pricing Power
When a product's marginal cost (the cost to produce one additional unit) is significantly lower than its average cost, pricing power rests with the buyer; the inverse also holds true. The marginal cost structure determines whether suppliers can sustain price premiums and whether buyers can negotiate discounts.
