Epistemological Mismatch in Interdisciplinary Discourse
When different disciplines discuss the same phenomenon using their own frameworks of knowledge, dialogue breaks down into talking past each other if they don't explicitly clarify what counts as 'evidence,' 'causation,' or 'success.' For example, psychotherapy's interpretive epistemology and behavioral optimization's empiricist epistemology may appear to address the same topic—happiness—but are fundamentally asking different questions, making meaningful exchange impossible without recognizing this underlying gap.
