Observer Effect / Measurement Paradox
The act of measuring a system changes the system itself. In social contexts, when a metric becomes a performance target, people optimize for that metric rather than the underlying objective, ultimately destroying the metric's original value. A measurement tool undermines itself once it becomes the goal.
