Supply Chain Constraint-Driven Spec Degradation
When upstream component shortages occur, manufacturers face three options: (1) raise prices while maintaining specs, (2) lower specs while maintaining prices, or (3) reduce production volume. Most choose spec reduction because consumers perceive visible downgrade less painfully than price increases. However, this gradually erodes brand premium and customer expectations over time.
